More restrictions on Azure card

The Azure card is used by people receiving Section 4 support to purchase their weekly shopping at certain supermarkets. Individuals and families are allowed to carry over certain amounts to the following week, and pregnant women and children are allowed to receive extra card payments by submitting an application for the Provision of Services or Facilities for Section 4 Service Users.

Since 28 May 2013 the Home Office have restricted the use of the card and it is no longer possible to purchase alcohol and tobacco in addition to gift cards, petrol and diesel which were already excluded. The card can be used to purchase food, drink, toiletries, clothing and credit for mobile phones.

When Section 4 support was introduced the support rate was £35.00. There was no increase until April 2010 when the rate was increased to the current rate of £35.39.
